Recent reviews of science textbooks have criticized the majority of them for trying to cover the waterfront, resulting in a "mile wide, inch deep" treatment. These texts tend to present lots of facts "about" science instead of involving students in "doing" science.This is the great strength of the Bridging the Watershed curriculum materials. Each of the modules sets up real scientific investigations about the local watershed environment. Unlike the "canned" science labs found in most conventional science curricula, Bridging the Watershed engages students in thinking and acting like an actual scientist.
